back on track.

It's nearing the end of December and most of the items on your "to-do" list are: (1) What to buy X, Y, & Z for Christmas (2) Bake 100 Christmas cookies by Friday (3) Decorate the house; and then the infamous (4) Finalize NYE plans. In the last 24 years of my existence I have spent NYE with either family, close friends, or a significant other. This year wasn't any different. I tried my very hardest to finalize NYE as early as I possibly could. Of course, this didn't happen. As it goes every year, the day before December 30th I agreed to going to yet another house party with kegs of beer, jello shots made with cheap vodka, and music to the likes of bob dylan and journey. I'm not saying it wasn't fun; it was actually one of the best NYE I've ever had. Although, I found myself looking back at another year gone by and not accomplishing much. So on January 1, 2010 I decided to change this and broadcast my New Year's Resolution to all my friends and family, "Sometime this year, I will be competing in a running race."

I wanted to commit to something that I knew would be a challenge yet totally feasible. I knew if I didn't let people know of my resolution, I would quit within 2 weeks of training. So January 4th began my training. Then on March 4th I signed up for my first ever 5k at the Herdon Festival!

Now some of you might think, "a 5k? really?". Well most of you don't know that I have scoliosis and it is extremely painful for me to run long distances. I did run track in high school but kept only to sprints. Anddddd, that was 8 years ago. So a 5k for me is a great start to hopefully being able to run longer distances.

4 months into training, i'm down 11 lbs, can only run 2 miles if i really really push myself, and at a standstill. I haven't worked out (hard) in the last 2 weeks. I've found myself consumed by work, quality bf time, and the likeliness of outdoor beverages. Not to mention, indulging myself in delicious meals.

I decided to start this blog to record my training for the next month. I have EXACTLY 1 month until the race. Today I'm promising to get back on track and focus hard on running those 3.1 miles in the summer heat.

We shall see the outcome...
