Rapha. It means "healing". It also means the healthcare clinic I started going to. Now that my awesome health care plan kicked in, I'm trying to get my back pain under control. And now that I would like to run more without feeling like me shoulders are going to snap (too graphic?), I would like to get the special care I need.

I googled local chiropractors; read some reviews; and voila! Decided with Rapha. Not only did I like the name, but I liked their focus on a more holistic approach than what other treatment centers focus on. Plus, the last 10 years of going to the same 'ol crack-your-back type of place clearly hasn't been working, so why not try something new? When I got there I spent an hour talking to my doctor on my lifestyle, past treatments, and my running goal. He assured me that with weekly treatment and care, I will have limited pain come race day.

Not only did he say the vitamins I'm taking are (and I quote) "Pure Crap" but he also told me that stretching your muscles is the enemy. Ummm, COME AGAIN?! Here's how he explained it to me:

Imagine're getting ready to grill a delicious 8oz filet on the girll but first need to tenderize it. How do you do this? Do you stretch it out, or do you pound it with a mallet of some sorts? You pound the shiz-nit out of it. So really you don't want to stretch out your muscles, you need to break up and loosen it.

I was SHOCKED when I heard this theory. I felt like I had been lied to my whole life. I grew up playing sports and training with coaches who always told me to stretch before AND after a work out. Could that wrongful information been the cause to my aches and pains all these years? Who knows, but like I said earlier...everything I've heard from past doctor's regarding my back hasn't worked so I'm putting my faith, health, and muscles into the Rapha clinic. I'm not gonna lie, I did feel temporarily healed after my visit :)

So I left Rapha feeling rejuvinated and "tenderized". I then proceeded to the gym for a meesly 45 minutes of straight cardio. Now, for all you runners out there...I'm not super knowledgable at this whole training thing just yet. You're probably sitting there thinking "She's doing this all wrong" and you're probably right. But judge me all you want. I don't care. I'm doing it this way, so deal.

It was a good feeling being back in the gym. I got there around 7pm, machines wide open, E! news on the tele, and I was on my way. I glided on the eliptical for 33 minutes and went right to the bike for another 12 minutes. Now that I got my body movin again after a good week of NOT moving, I feel like I'll add in some light weights tomorrow :)

I just realized it's 12:30am and I have to wake up for work soon. dagger.

Welp, see ya later!
