beware: this post will make you hungry.

i took way too many pictures on our fabulous trip to miami. and about 75% of them were of food.

what can i say? i like to eat.

so i thought i would first brag about all the delicious meals and restaurants we got to try while we were down there. we sure took advantage of our vacation time. and made sure we were well-fed at all hours of the night :)
i'll write another post on all the other things we did - apart from the feasting.

please disregard the crappy quality of the pictures. i had to take my ancient camera with me that i had back in college because i didn't want to ruin my nice one while frolicking in the sand and raging at all hours in the night.

fish tacos in key largo!

grabbing sandwiches and smoothies at la sandwicherie!
all the outdoor restaurants had fans with misters! so refreshing

peppers at sushi samba
& a little afternoon pick-me-up of liquor coffee

THE best tacos at T-Mex Tacos. i'm still having dreams about these things.

homemade rigatoni and shrimp at TiramesU

2 for 1 sweet tea vodka drinks! yes, i had 2 of these...

relaxed and sick.

hi friends.
i'm back from our wonderful vacation in miami
where we spent five relaxing days laying at the beach, swimming in the clear blue ocean and reading on our very own rooftop pool.
and somehow i managed to get sick on the 4th day.
figures.
but i powered through the last day two days we were there
and now paying for it.
my throat is sore. my nose is stuffy. and my head is cloudy.
i'll be back soon because i can't wait to share miami with all of you.

our rooftop pool!

p.s. another special thanks to cailen and jenni for guest posting while i was gone.
you girls rock!

guest post {jenni austria germany]

happy thursday!

i have a very special treat for you all today! my second guest post comes from jenni at jenni austria germany. jenni's blog was one of the first that i started following and i have developed the biggest girl crush on her! it probably has to do with the fact that 1) she lives in europe; 2) she is pretty much trilingual; 3) she only has to work 3-4 days/week; 4) which means she easily gets to travel all around europe. i.want.her.life. oh, and she has the sweetest polish boyfriend and tells funny stories about their cultural differences. i laugh everytime i read her blog and i'm sure you will too.  thanks again, jenni!

******************

My favorite summer vacation wasn’t really a vacation at all.
But it certainly felt like one.
Allow me to explain….

This summer, I’m living in Bavaria.
Last summer, I lived in Vienna.
The summer before that, I lived in Salzburg, Austria.
And all the summers before that, I lived in Oklahoma.
But that Salzburg summer…that very well may have been the best summer of my life.
How I wish I could spend every summer in Salzburg!

In Salzburg, Austria, where that giant, regal fortress looms over the entire city – visible from almost any window in town:

In Salzburg, Austria, where a simple walk to the grocery store looks like this:

In Salzburg, Austria, where you can stop and drink water out of fountains that look like this:

In Salzburg, Austria, a city so beautiful, you’ll feel the need to take your camera along everywhere you go, even after you’ve lived there for 6 months:

In Salzburg, Austria, where even the cemeteries exude romance:

In Salzburg, Austria, a city divided by the Salzach river, along which the lucky residents lie daily, reading, relaxing and bathing lazily in the sun:

In Salzburg, Austria, where the pealing church bells can be heard from miles away:

In Salzburg, Austria, where the hills are alive with The Sound of Music:

In Salzburg, Austria, where the Von Trapp children themselves once sang and danced:

In Salzburg, Austria, my former home and the place I left my heart:

Now do you see why it was the best summer of my life?

guest post {lifestyle maven}

hola, from miami folks!

i'm so, so, so, excited to share my first guest blogger with you all - cailen from lifestyle maven. i've been following cailen since the beginning of the year and instantly fell in love with her blog. i can't get enough of her delicious (and healthy!) recipe's and her fabulous lifestyle - not to mention she is a fellow jersey girl herself!! her life is just fascianating that i had to have her be a part of a pocket full of chuckles - she is an interior designer, an author, and recently launched a new product! you're an inspiration - thank you again, cailen!

***************

hi there...or should i say bonjour!  i'm cailen, the blogger behind lifestyle maven, a guide to being simply fabulous.

first off, let me say a big thank you to erica for asking be to do a guest post on her lovely blog.  i'm completely flattered.  she requested i write about a favorite summer vacation, so obviously many wonderful memories fluttered through my mind...sunny weeks down the jersey shore, quiet august days in maine, a romantic getaway to nantucket...but, the one that stuck was more than a vacation, it was a life-changing experience - my month and a half in france.

following my junior year of college, i attended a month-long study abroad program in paris.  i studied art history, architecture; the history of paris while living with a french family in the 17th arrondissement.  upon completion of the program, my now-fiancé, my sister and parents ventured over, and we traveled around france for another 2 weeks.  it.  was.  fabulous.  (i think the pictures speak for themselves : )

the artists of montmartre (near the famous moulin rouge)
parisians LOVE their bread.  they carry it around like an accessory everywhere they go.
pont neuf (a.k.a. bridge nine) at night.  isn't she lovely?!
a little street in chartres, a nearby city.

wine tasting in beaune, a quaint town in burgundy...you know, like the wine : )

craig; me taking in the vineyard view
dining on the patio of our chateau-hotel in the loire valley
i hope you've enjoyed this mini-vaca as much as i've enjoyed reminiscing about it.  travel is such a magical thing - it changes you (if you're open to it), allowing you to glimpse the world in a new and wonderful way.

i hope you'll stop by my blog sometime and enjoy some simply fabulous tips, techniques and recipes to cultivate health; unearth happiness.

festival fun.

hope you all had a fabulous weekend! i had an amazing time in jersey and can't wait to tell you all about it :D

one of the great things about living in the dc/northern virginia area is our prime access to the amazing wineries. and amazing wineries mean amazing wine festivals!

about two weeks ago we attended the vintage virginia wine festival, one of the largest in the area, and it was a blast! it was our first time there and had one of the best days of summer thus far! when we first heard about the festival we were a bit hesitant to go only because it's located a good 45 minutes away. so trying to figure out transportation was tiresome. UNTIL! they announced shuttle service to and from the festival which was located one block from our apartment! oh yea! everyone who signed up for the shuttle met at a local bar at 9am where they served us mimosas and breakfast. so we started our day drinking rather early :D

the weather was amazing and there were endless rows of tents. out of the 10 tents there, we probably made it to about three. but that was okay because we tried some amazing wines! the most interesting was a jalepeno-base wine. so interesting! the place was overflowing with crowds but we never had to wait more than 3 minutes to get a tasting. as soon as we found the wine that we liked, we bought a few bottles, found an open grassy area, plopped down with some gyros and wine and enjoyed the music. i already can't wait to go back next year!

how was your weekend?!

home is where the heart is.

woohoo it's friday! and that means i leave for jersey in a few hours! boyfriend and i are driving up and staying with my aunt and uncle until sunday afternoon. it also just so happens to be the weekend my parents are driving up from north carolina to stay with them for 10 days. which meas i'll actually get to spend father's day with my dad! it will sure be a fun-filled family weekend!

i haven't been up north to visit my extended family in about two years. which is very depressing. ever since i moved to dc and my parents moved to north carolina, i haven't been able to make many trips up there. it makes me really sad sometimes to think that back in high school we would all get together at least once a month for sunday dinners. yes, we do sunday dinners. and yes, they start at 2pm. and yes, there's a ridiculous amount of food, every time. and now i go two years without seeing them? depressing.

so now that my little pitty party is over i'm SO excited to show boyfriend my marvelous home state! this is the first time he'll be meeting the entire clan so he'll probably feel overwhelmed, but at least he'll be well fed :)

in the good spirit of this post i thought it would be nice to dig up and post some old pictures of me and my family back in jersey. but then i realized i only had two pictures. remind me to have my parents dig up some more for me back in NC.

happy father's day, dad!

have a nice weekend!

a wild and wonderful wedding.

gorgeous flowers

the beautiful couple!
silly dancing!

don't mess with me and my cake!

the entire group at the after party

we had such an amazing time at my friends' wedding last weekend. i feel like all my friends are getting engaged and/or married. it's so weird thinking that only four years ago we were all together, going out in good ol' morgantown (let's go mountaineers!), and enjoying our college years. but now everyone is growing up, falling in love, and getting married. it's crazzzzy. i wonder where we'll all be in another four years!!

it was so wonderful getting to meet up with my group of college friends for a weekend celebration. the bride and groom were glowing and it was a true party! the weather was perfect, the company was perfect, and the cake was perfect :)

congratulations alicia and brandon.
i wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
