monday dreaming - summer concerts.

there are so many things i have to look forward to this summer - moving, vacation, weddings. but one thing that is high on that list is concerts.

going to concerts have always been a love of mine. i had my first warped tour experience when i was 14 (soooo emo), i've seen dave matthews more times than i can count, i've traveled to see coldplay, phish, and dispatch - just to name a few, i went to bonnaroo when i was 21 (soooo groovy), and boyfriend has introduced me to plenty of indie and underground groups in the last 2.5 years - thanks, love!

we already have a few lined up in the coming months (lady antebellum, radiohead, dominion river rock festival, and medeski martin and wood) that i keep dreaming about.

flowy dresses, cold beers, cool summer nights.

what about you?
are concerts your type of thing?

make it dirty.

date night

this week had its ups and downs, that's for sure. i'm not going to bore you and divulge on some weepy story so you can all feel bad for me, but i will tell you that this was one of those weeks that just didn't work. and i'm kinda glad it's over.

moving on...

today's friday's fancies theme is date night which could not have happened at a better time. whitney, melissa, and i are having our own girly date night tonight. it's been a while since the three of us have all gotten together (we got together weekly to watch the bachelor and we tore those biatches apart) and i'm excited to have a girly, gossipy night filled with dirty martini's and lots of laughs. after this week it's just what i need!

i actually picked up this skirt last weekend at the limited. seriously, that place is growing on me. i even scooped up a similar necklace in pale pink. but there is absolutely no chance that i purchased a chanel purse, but man oh man, if i did, i would rock that thing.
anyone want to loan me $4,000?

hope you all have a lovely weekend!

what i wore.

shirt {lc for lauren conrad}
jeans {the limited}
sandals {nine west}
sunglasses {ray bans}
messenger bag {urban outfitters}
watch {michael kors}

this is my last outfit post from my easter trip home to north carolina. again, i wore the pink pants but this time it wasn't my fault. we were having dinner at the club and you can't wear blue jeans. it was too chilly to wear my dress so the pink pants made another appearance.

i've had this messenger bag for three years and it's still going strong. i bring it everywhere with me - even on my european vacationit holds so much and is so durable i can't swap it out for another one just yet.

the palm tree makes me yearn for our vacation next month to the outerbanks. only one more month to go! i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...

are you longing for a vacation?

i can't believe i just posted that last picture.

i promise.

monday dreaming.

my hair has been on my mind lately. over the last year it has grown so much and i can't wait to start styling it. we have six weddings between the end of july and the beginning of november (and i'm in three of them) so  i've been thinking a lot about what i'm going to do with my hair. my current styling is pretty nonexistent. i wear my hair straight because it's thick, nothing holds, and i still have baby fly-away's that like to stick up near my hairline. it's like my hair is allergic to hairspray or something. i can't do cute braids or cute up-do's because my fingers and hands just don't move like that. or it could be because i'm lazy. whatever. i guess it's a good thing i'm getting my hair professionally done for the three weddings i'm in.

so i need your help. how should i do it?
(two of the dresses are strapless and one is halter)

{all photos via my pinterest}

so,  which style(s) do you like best?

it's friday. and i'm fancy.

today's friday's fancies theme is "picnic primped" and the first thing that came to mind was my very own lobster dress from anthropologie.

i bought this dress two years ago and it still holds power over my other, more recent summer dresses. i just love it. and i tend to get compliments when i wear it. which is always nice.

shopping in charleston, nc - july 2010

wine tasting, july 2011

i wish i had more (and better) pictures of myself in the dress, but i don't. i guess i'll just have to wear it some time soon and maybe dedicate a "what i wore" post to it.

anyways, what are you lovelies doing this weekend? we're going to the nationals baseball game tonight, spending time with my brother and boyfriend's family tomorrow, and packing all day on sunday. only 2 more weeks left until we start the move!

have a great weekend!

tupac, dollar shave club, and west virginia. all in one post.

three little videos that kind of amaze me.
if you don't feel like watching all three then do yourself a favor and jump to the last one.
it's pretty awesome.
and i'm not just saying that because it's my alma mater.

this one.
either tupac is still alive. or dr. dre is brilliant.
i vote both.

the second one.
probably the best business start-up launch video ever.

and finally.
a homage to my alma mater.
i can't believe it's been 4.5 years. how i miss that place.
oh and where you see the volleyball court? i used to live in a house right behind it.
good times were had. good times, indeed.

what i wore.

....while chasing boyfriend around southport, north carolina a few weeks ago.

shirt {h&m)
shoes {primark uk)
sunglasses {ray bans}
messenger bag {urban outfitters}
watch {michael kors}

he wouldn't give me my phone back. humph.

with a little chase i ended up getting it back, so don't worry.

let me tell you something about TOMS. you know, those awesome slip on shoes that every body and their mother has? well back in december i wanted to jump on the bandwagon and get myself a pair because they really are the most comfortable pair of shoes that come in the most awesomest (i just made up a word) colors and patterns. i told myself to wait a while until after my european adventure, when my wallet would feel a bit thicker.

but when i was in harrogate and went primark - their version of a forever 21 - i spotted these wanna be TOMS and tried them on. to my amazement they fit perfectly and looked just like the real ones! then when i saw the price tag of $10 (!!!) a part of me squealed. there was no hesitation. i knew they were coming back to the states with me.

i'm still planning to purchase a pair of the real things. i have my brown eyes on these and these, but in the meantime i'll be rocking my wanna be's and loving every minute of it.

do you have a pair of TOMS?
what's your favorite pattern?

p.s. speaking of "wanna be"...did this come to mind after reading my post? or just me? love me some spice girls.

p.p.s. be sure to check out jenni's group giveaway. you might just win yourself one of my favorite candles from your's truly :)

coconut nest.

i love to bake. especially during a holiday. and this easter was no different.

after seeing these coconut nest cupcakes over on cupcakes and cashmere i knew i wanted to make them for easter dessert. i mean, toasted coconut? i die.

i did alter the recipe just a bit.

and asked for some help from mr. duncan hines.

he never disappoints.

i did, however, make the vanilla buterrcream icing from scratch, by following this recipe, and it was a-mazing.

what have you baked lately?

monday dreaming.

we had some amazing weather here in dc over the weekend which had me dreaming of al fresco dining. what's more perfect than eating outside, in perfect temperature, with the ones you love?

not much.

and with these views?

i can't wait for when we have the space to be able to put together spreads like this for our guests.

do you prefer to dine al fresco in the warmer months?

hoot hoot.

pastel weekend

pastel weekend by ecoletta

you guys, this week was rough. my to-do list is ever expanding and i feel like i'm running on empty. the only thing getting me through the rest of the day is my spa appointment at 5:30. cannot wait for that massage.

don't ask me why but i've been drawn to owls lately. i keep spotting owl necklaces and rings everywhere and would love to add these little guys to my accessory box. i mean, how cute is that ring!?

i'm running errands on saturday and this outfit will be perfect. comfy, casual, and still festive. we're also starting the packing process. oh! we're moving. adios, arlington...hola, reston. it's bittersweet for us. we love our apartment and its location. the fact that we can be in the city in less than 5 minutes is beyond amazing. but the reality is we need a bigger place and a bigger place in arlington means you have to shell out an absurd amount of money. annnnd we're not about to do that. just in rent alone we'll be saving $700/month in our new place. crazy, right?

so reston it is. our place is about 20 minutes outside the city (so we're not going tooooo far) and in an area we both love. our place is bigger and we'll still be able to walk to restaurants and the grocery store. so we'll have a little bit of that "city" feel.

we're going to a bbq on sunday and it's supposed to be 85 degrees. 85 degrees! i'll probably wear my lobster dress, eat a lot of potato salad, and drink a lot of (spiked) arnold palmer's while basking in the sun.

my idea of perfection.

do you have any fun outdoor plans this weekend?

garlic breath.

i love garlic. i love to put it in everything. the more garlic on something, the better. end of story.

although, garlic breath is never better. gross.

so when i stumbled across this dish on pinterest i knew i had to make it. not to mention it's the easiest thing to make. seriously. it took about 10 minutes. now that's my kind of cooking!

hot garlic shrimp and asparagus

the asparagus was perfectly cooked, with just enough crisp. i hate when asparagus is too soggy.  it gets all stringy and nasty. gross. and with just enough red pepper flakes, the dish had the right amount of kick. oh! and the garlic! it was loaded with garlic. chunks of it floated throughout the bowl and i couldn't get enough! scooped up every.last.bite.

it's a good thing i had no plans afterwards because it took many, many hours for my breath to get back to "normal".

do you like adding garlic to your dishes?

what i wore.

i'm linking up today with the pleated poppy.

tank top {nordstrom}
jeans {the limited}
watch {michael kors}
ring {vintage}

matching nail polish

this was my easter attire. i kept it pretty casual, especially with the bare feet. what can i say? we're laid back kind of people. i've been wearing these pants like there's no tomorrow. i can't get enough. i really want a pair of purple ones now. anyone know where i can score a pair?

i can't believe how long my hair is. just a little over a year ago i chopped 11.5 inches and donated it to locks of love. you can see the before and after pics here. it was a huge change and i'm so glad i did it. since then i've had several cuts to tame the bangs and keep the length near my shoulders but i haven't gotten a trim since september and i haven't cut my bangs since january. my bangs are at that awkward length where no matter what i do with them - pin them back, swoop them to the side, or part them - they drive me insane!

i'm trying to grow my hair out for the six weddings i have this year. yes, you read that correctly. six. all weddings range from july to november and i'm in three of them. it's going to be a busy few months! i might chop off my bangs again after the november wedding, but we'll see.

what do you think - bangs, or no bangs?

a holiday down south.

vacations are always too short.

we drove back from north carolina yesterday and have already been counting down the days until our next getaway in may. our time with my parents was lovely. the weather was perfect (except for a few rain showers on friday) and we were able to completely relax - which was our ultimate goal. we also managed to cross off pretty much everything on our agenda. all in all, it was a perfect easter vacation!

now it's on to another work week, but at least it's only a four day week for us!

happy tuesday

dinner on the water

fried pickles, onion rings, coconut shrimp - so healthy.

morning bike rides and runs

shooting range

i'm badass.

top down, chrome spinnin.

beach views

driving range; playing with molly

spring festival

oldest tree in southport.

relaxing at easter dinner - just the appetizers (antipasto and stuffed mushrooms)
