every day in may.

things have been a little crazy around these parts.
a mix of good and bad, but mostly good.
to catch you up on the last couple of weeks
we went wine tasting,
took a trip to richmond to visit friends and went on an awesome bike ride to high bridge in farmville,
finished another whole30
and did some intense spring cleaning.

i can't believe wednesday is may 1st!
some really exciting things will be happening throughout the month.
for starters, my virginia bridal shower is on saturday (!!)
i'm picking up danielle from the airport on friday
and then we go straight to my first dress fitting with my mom (!!!)
a couple of days later my mom and i are meeting with three potential florists
and later in the month we have our cake tasting,
and taking a trip back home to north carolina for memorial day.

i've really missed blogging and connecting with all you wonderful people.
in an effort to get back in the groove,
i'm joining jenni in her every day in may challenge.
i'm going to blog every day. for 31 days.
it starts wednesday.

glad to be back.
will you follow along?

cherry blossoms.

the cherry blossom festival in dc is stressful.
full of tourists, closed roads, and oh - did i mention the tourists?
we've been a bit behind on this whole spring thing
(even though it's felt like summer all week, hello 85 degree weather,
i'm so not ready for you)
and the tidal basin has been looking pretty bare,
and the cherry blossoms outside our window
are completely non-existant!
it was said this past weekend would be
THE weekend for the trees to bloom, so on saturday,
my arlington bestie and I walked 7 miles, 7 MILES
to see the cherry blossoms.
but when we got to the tidal basin
there was maybe a handful of the bloomed trees.

we made our way to the one cherry blossom
in the area, snapped some photos
and went on our merry way.
thanks, dc.
at least you gave us some amazing weather.

then on sunday i woke up
and to my surprise
the cherry blossoms outside our building finally bloomed!

i think spring...or finally here.

back on it.

we've been back on whole30 for two weeks now.
new orleans really shook things up...
if you know what i mean.

it's definitely been a lot easier
the second time around
and we've been trying more exciting recipes too!
these dishes are amazing and
sure to please anyone,
whether you're on whole30 or not!

bunless grass-fed burger
topped with a fried egg, avocado, tomatoes and sauteed mushrooms and onions

zucchini spaghetti and grilled chicken
in a tomato meat sauce
(made with leftover meat from our bunless burgers!)

banana pancakes and egg scramble
(pancakes made with 1 banana, 2 eggs, and 1 tbs. of coconut flour)

cajun shrimp and "grits"
(aka cauliflower)

chicken curry

for easter brunch,
my guy made an amazing sweet potato hash
(the leftovers were even better!)
and for dinner one night
i made the yummy chili again.

what have you cooked up in the kitchen lately?

i nag. do you?

there are many things in life that i need to work on.
patience and when to just shut my mouth and listen is definitely top 5.
i am quite the stubborn one
i think i am right 99% of the time
and it's hard for me to admit when i' m wrong.
even when i know i'm wrong about something
and feel so so bad and embarrassed about it,
i build up more of a defense wall because i'm just that stubborn.

i make to-do lists on the regular.
i find that it de-stresses me and helps me prioritize the important things in life.
like when i need to get a haircut, dust, and plant our flowers for the season.
OCD much?
but then when something doesn't get done when i want it to get done
my anxiety sky rockets.
and if i ask someone to help me do something
and then they don't do it when i expect them to do it,
i obsess, i nag, i annoy, and then i nag a bagillion more times.
the world is obviously coming to an end.

i'm obviously exaggerating
but there are times when i seriously need to chill the $^%* out.

i read this list
which totally hits home
especcccccially #1.

"Don't insist that a task be done on your schedule"

i mean, how spot on are they?
this list is just a little reminder
that i can choose to relax a bit more
even rephrase my "asks" to people
and that not everything
we'll all be okay.
we'll survive.
i'll survive.
and it will get done.
